Students from the Friends Public High School (Youhana Abad, Pakistan) and Canon Triest Middle School (Lahore, Pakistan) performed short plays on the 5th of September, the International Day of Charity.

At the end of the programme, Mr. Ashraf Rahmat explained the meaning of the International Day of Charity and how to be charitable in life. Mr. Ashraf also speeched about Fr. Peter Joseph Triest, the founder of Brothers of Charity, and the services being provided by the Brothers of Charity and Fracarita International.

Charity contributes to the promotion of dialogue, solidarity and mutual understanding ā€Žamong people

Poverty persists in all countries of the world, ā€Žregardless of their economic, social and cultural situation, particularly in developing countries.

In recognition of the role of charity in alleviating humanitarian crises and human ā€Žsuffering within and among nations, as well as of the efforts of charitable organizations ā€Žand individuals, including the work of Mother Teresa, the General Assembly of the ā€ŽUnited Nations in its resolution A/RES/67/105 designated the 5th of September, the ā€Žanniversary of the death of Mother Teresa, as the International Day of Charity.ā€Ž

On this International Day of Charity, the United Nations invites all Member States and all international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, to commemorate the Day in an appropriate manner, by encouraging charity, including through education and public awareness-raising activities (source: http://www.un.org/en/events/charityday/)
