We are very pleased to announce that Fracarita China receives a donation from the Koch Foundation. This amount will be used to finance the formation programme in 2016, in order to continue the charity missions in China. The mission of the Brothers of Charity in China started in 2008. The brothers and other staff members help children with disabilities and special needs, support elderly people and orphans, and give pastoral education to the youth in China. Fracarita Indonesia finalized the purchase of a new car and motorcycle for the Renceng Mose Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centre & Clinic in Ruteng Town, Flores Island. The fund was made available through the generosity of two organizations (Miva Netherlands & Reinier van Arkel), mediated by Fracarita Netherlands. The choice of the car is based on the reality of Flores Island’s landscape and road condition. The car will surely make it easier for Brothers & staff members to better organize the centre’s two main programmes, in-patient and outreach programmes, such as home-care and awareness programme. Several patients of the psychiatric rehabilitation centre Escuela de Vida beautified the appearance of the building in Lima, Peru in April 2016. They painted the building in different colours. It was another healthy and drug-free day! Escuela de Vida The full name of this centre is Centro de Diagnostico, psicoterapia y Rehabilitación en Adicciones - Escuela de Vida. This centre, which is located in the metropolis of Lima, is called “Escuela de Vida” or “Life School”. The aim of the project is to enable volunteers to work with drug addicts on a rehabilitation programme. A powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake rocked parts of South Asia on 26 October 2015. Two schools of the Brothers of Charity in Lahore, Pakistan, were badly damaged. There were some cracks in the classrooms and the boundary walls. For this reason, Fracarita International looked for funds and received an amount from the Province of West-Flanders. The renovation works started on 23 January 2016 and are now finished. The students can go safely to school again. On Monday 4 April 2016, there was an official Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing in Sriperumbudur, India, between the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development and Dr. Guislain Svastha Education Trust on the subject of Diploma Course Community Based Mental Health. The 6-month CBMH Diploma will start in June 2016 and it will be conducted for 25 students in Ranchi. HAS, the health advisory service, has recently published a new study on Improving Mental Healthcare in Resource-poor Settings. The study was funded by the European Commission and makes a plea to mainstream mental health throughout the health system and in other relevant sectors. Apart from key advice to the EU on how to move forward on this subject, the authors also list a number of key questions to stimulate policy dialogue on mental health between national governments and development partners including EU Delegations. From January to April 2016, several events took place at the Saint Dymphna Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre in Gingoog, Philippines. This small-scaled initiative, locally originated on behalf of volunteers, was taken over by the Brothers of Charity in 2013 and thoroughly adapted to fit the requirements of care services. The center was reopened at the end of 2014. ‘Breaking the chains of stigma’ and removing the iron bars were top priorities for Fracarita Philippines.
