World Mental Health Day at the SOSAME Psychiatric Centre in Bukavu, DR Congo

On October 10th, 2021, the Sosame Psychiatric Centre (SPC) in Bukavu joined the international community in celebrating the World Mental Health Day. The main theme of this 29th anniversary was “Respect for the rights of people with mental disorders”. The day was also an opportunity for the SPC to raise the awareness of the local population on the problem of mental health, in a region where people with mental disorders have been chained and hidden for decades because of discrimination and stigmatisation, causing more sufferings to them.
This is such an inspiring article to read. I actually have visited a small mental health center within my locality, and I realized just how much people need help in terms of care, which includes even the outsourcing psychiatric billing services that enable mental centers to concentrate more on their clients.
