St. Joseph's Technical Institute Trincomalee
This technical school in the port city of Trincomalee focuses on unemployed young people who have had to suspend their studies early due to poverty and who became victims of civil war or were suddenly left on their own after the tsunami. The school provides five options of vocational training.: metalwork, electronics, refrigeration techniques, welding and car mechanics. The outcome for the students is very positive as following their graduation, the majority immediately find a job in their respective field.
