Pax Institute

This secondary school, together with the nursery school Paxajana and primary school Paxana is identified as the Pax College. The school was founded in 1930 by the Brothers of Charity. Due to the apartheid system, the school was only accessible to the local black population at the time. The school is situated about thirty km from the city of Polokwane. The majority of the pupils live in the surrounding villages and are experiencing extreme poverty. Approximately half of the pupils are resident in the Pax Hostel. The school has achieved an excellent reputation: nearly all pupils pass the national exams. Whilst the status of Pax College is now a public school, representatives of the Brothers of Charity still sit on the school board.
