Institut Technique Fundi Maendeleo (I.T.F.M.), Bukavu

The city of Bukavu has only one technical school, the Institut Technique Fundi Maendeleo (meaning: “Technical school for the formation of skilled workers”) and it’s the only functioning technical school in the whole province. The school depends almost completely on financial means from the North. The Congolese state has insufficient financial resources to finance the teachers’ salaries and cover the running costs, and the local population is too poor to pay school fees that could cover the actual costs. They need the little money they have for their own daily survival.
