Rumonge Deaf Cooperative

Deaf people in Tanzania get very few chances in life. Special education for the deaf is very rare and only for the "happy few". Most deaf people are illiterate and not educated. As a result, they remain dependent on others for the rest of their lives. The Rumonge Deaf Cooperative aims at the economic and social empowerment of deaf people in the Kigoma Region, one of the poorest regions in Tanzania.

Professional training for poor youth

The property in Rumonge is now also being used to develop a professional training centre for vulnerable youth such as street children, in cooperation with the Burundian NGO AHD (Action Humanitaire contre la Délinquence). The first stone of this new project was laid in June 2015 (see pictures below). The training is part of a larger synergy project (named Syn4Led).
