Param Mitra Sadan

This initiative for chronically ill psychiatric patients is situated in Ranchi, a city with over a million inhabitants in the state of Jharkhand. The name of the project is “Param Mitra Sadan”, which means “the house of the best friends”. Father Peter Joseph Triest, founder of the Congregation of the Brothers of Charity, freed psychiatric patients from their chains in Belgium in the 19th century, because they were his “best friends”. Today, the brothers in India are freeing psychiatric patients from life behind bars, trying to give them dignified human care and guidance.
