Centre Psychiatrique Pierre Joseph Triest, Lusanga

The Centre Psychiatrique Pierre Joseph Triest is housed in the old hospital buildings of an oil plantation. Following the upgrading of a few outbuildings the hospital has been brought into use again as the only accommodation in the entire province of Bandundu to help patients with psychiatric problems. In order to improve communication to as many people as possible, an antenna has been placed in the Kikwit Centre, 50 km south of Lusanga. This will facilitate support to even more people on an ambulatory basis. At this moment, a new hospital is being built in Kikwit. There are already some consultations in that new unit.

The Centre Psychiatrique Pierre Joseph Triest in Lusanga provides an additional consulation office in the middle of the city of Kikwit. It is the only service available for individuals with mental health issues in a city of more than 200,000 inhabitants. In cases whereby the patients cannot be treated on an ambulatory basis, they are referred to the Centre Psychiatrique Pierre Joseph Triest in Lusanga, 50 km north of Kikwit.
